Hillarys

My school is called Hillarys Primary School. It has got 4 blocks, separating the school. B block is for pre primary up to year 2. A block is for years 3 to 4 and a computer lab. C block is for years 5 to seven, a music room and a LOTE (languages other than English) room. D block is the library, art room, office and staff room.

Hillarys Primary School has many things to offer. We participate in PEAC, interschool sport (eg. football and netball), state cross country, interschool swimming carnivals and go on many excursions. Some of the places I've been with Hilarys Primary School are AQUA, the Perth Zoo, Rottnest, the beach and the Maritime Museum.

Our school treats year 7's with very great respect. Some of the things we have done so far is have a 4 day trip to Rottnest, go beach swimming, and have people from such high schools as Duncraig and Padbury tell us about the advantages of going there the following year. Some of the things the year 7's are yet to do is graduation, surfing and many more excursions yet to come.

The years 7's also get graduation shirts and graduation jackets. The shirt have the school logo and all the graduator's names on it, and the jacket has the school logo. This year the graduation shirts are white, but in the past have have been black as well. This is because the school colours are red, black and white.

Our school also holds a ceramony for ANZAC day. We invite different victorious soldiers of World War II, mainly because there is one a few survivors of World War I. Each year will make wreathes and crosses to commemorate those who have died.

We also have a very good play area. There is a play ground for the A,B and C block areas. We have 3 sets of play equipment, monkey bars, 2 netball courts, a football sized oval and Hillarys Reserve at the back of our school. Although we are not allowed to play at Hillarys Reserve during break times, mainly because it is too vast, it is where we hold the upper school sports carnival and where our interschool soccer players play when it's a home game for us.

Our sport carnivals are basically a competition between our three factions, Pelsaert (green), Dampier (blue) and Lockyer (yellow). The aim is to win the most points by the end of the day. The average for each upper school, and lower school's amount of points would be around 1000. The team Lockyer (yellow) always wins, and as for Dampier (blue) and Pelsaert (green) it's always a toss up who will previal over eachother.

In 2005, our school also got visited by the council of water wise schools. Hillarys P.S. is the first school of WA to become water wise. Closely followed by North Kalgoorlie Primary School by only 2 days. Our school is also smoke free and sun smart. Our hats were changed in the year 2003 from a cap with a flap at the back, to a fully-rimmed hat protecting our face, neck and ears.

Back in 2001 our school was reffered to as "Lymburner Primary School". 'Lymburner' came from the street that our school was located on. In late 2001, the name was changed to Hillarys Primary School. The name 'Hillarys' came from the suburb the school was located in.

Our school is kept in a very clean and neat stage. Litter is kept to a minimum and the gardener keeps the bushes green. Grafetti is cleaned on with in the week that it was made and after school hours security cameras are turned on. Windows are repaired very quickly too, although the windows being smashed stopped in around 2004.
In conclusion, Hillarys Primary School is a great place to learn, with friendly staff, a good environment, and excellence in the learning and physical education program.

Thank you for reading, and I hope you have learnt something.
